Toshiba Looking To Announce New Tablet At IFA Show [Toshiba Said To Be Holding Ultra-Thin Tablet For The 2011 IFA Show Following Disappointing Performance Of The Thrive]
We’re already gearing up out here for the upcoming IFA show, which is a lot like the CES show, only a bit more European being as it’s taking place in Berlin. And, as is usually the case around a major electronics trade show, the rumors and leaks and such are starting to emerge about just what you’ll be seeing out at said show. One of the latest to emerge is about Toshiba, who’s got a whole new tablet in mind for us.

You might remember the Toshiba Thrive tablet, which did not live up to its namesake, at least as far as the markets were concerned. If market performance were reflected in a product’s name, the Toshiba Thrive might well have been better called the Toshiba Wither, or maybe even the Toshiba Plague. And while either of those names would make awesome plot elements in a science fiction novel, it doesn’t make for a healthy bottom line at the corporate level, which is why the new word suggests Toshiba will be bringing out a whole new, and much thinner, tablet.
Some have attributed the distinct lack of success on the Toshiba Thrive’s part to the tablet’s overall dimensions, which were significantly thicker than the ordinary. The biggest difference between the Thrive and the new tablet is that while the Thrive offered up full-size HDMI and USB ports, the new (as yet unnamed) tablet will boast their micro equivalents. Also expected to arrive are a TI OMAP4460 dual-core processor running at a healthy 1.5 GHz along with an edge-to-edge screen of as yet unknown resolution, as well as a brushed metal housing.
The rest of the details, like what version of Android it’s running, storage sizes and the like, are thin on the ground right now, but considering the IFA show is coming up directly, we should be getting all the details we could want in rapid fashion.
So what do you guys think? Was it the size of the Toshiba Thrive that kept you away? Will a thinner one make you more eager to buy? Or do you already have your tablet of choice so no matter what Toshiba brought out you still wouldn’t be interested? Either way, we love hearing from you, so hit the comments section and tell us what you think!
