Samsung Said To Be Considering The Purchase Of webOS [Latest Samsung Related Rumors Include Them Purchasing webOS From HP To Better Compete With Google & Apple]

What can we say here, it is another day and it seems we have another round of Samsung and HP related rumors. Many will remember that Samsung was rumored to have been interested in purchasing HP’c computer business.

Of course, that rumor was quickly put to rest when Samsung issued a statement saying that “the recent rumors that Samsung Electronics will be taking over Hewlett-Packard Co.’s personal computer business are not true.”

And well, what is one to do next. Well, how about a rumor about Samsung considering the purchase of a mobile operating system from HP. Yup, the latest rumor is suggesting that Samsung is interested in purchasing webOS from HP. The details are coming by way of the sometimes accurate and sometimes not so accurate DigiTimes where they state that;

Samsung Electronics, despite refuting reports it plans to take over Hewlett-Packard’s (HP’s) PC business, reportedly has already recruited HP’s ex-vice president of PSG marketing Raymond Wah to handle Samsung’s PC sales, and the company is also reportedly considering purchasing webOS to compete head on against Apple and Google, according to sources from notebook players.

That being said, both Samsung and HP have also “declined to comment” on the subject. Nonetheless, it could make plenty of sense for Samsung, especially in light of the Google and Motorola deal. If nothing else, if Samsung does purchase webOS it could help them out in terms of mobile devices due to the patents that would be included.

And aside from the possible comfort that those patents could bring Samsung in the mobile wars that seem to be raging right now — speaking as a fan of the webOS operating system, it could be a nice addition to a Samsung device. Still, we have to wonder where webOS would fit in with everything else that Samsung is doing.

    It would make even more sense if the deal included the rights and patents to the old iPAQ product lineup. HP had an iPAQ phone running Windows Mobile on a 3 1/2 inch screen.

    If Samsung had this in their arsenal, the patent battles would look a bit different. The iPAQ Phone certainly predates the Apple iPhone. Both have a touchscreen and a mobile OS and downloadable Apps.
