PAX Prime 2011: Star Wars: The Old Republic Getting More Beta Testers
It seems like Star Wars: The Old Republic has been in development since it was called The New Republic (rim shot, please). Despite that, there still are a lot of folks who have their eyes on the game, and some great news for those people, as BioWare has announced at a PAX panel that they’ll be jacking up the number of beta testers for SW:TOR as the game gets closer to its release date in Q4 of this year.

Gaming blog Joystiq is reporting that at a PAX panel, Bioware announced that they would be “great expanding the pool of testers” for TOR. This expansion is expected to start around September 2, so don’t bother refreshing the Gmail page every minute until then.
For those who have been living under a rock the past 3 years, Star Wars: The Old Republic is the first MMOG from developer BioWare, who’s best known for developing single player epic RPGs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. World of Warcraft has been dominating the MMOG scene for the past seven years, and considering the name, IP and talent behind SW:TOR, industry watchers believe that this one might be the only one that has a chance at knocking WOW off its throne.
BioWare and their publishers, Electronic Arts, haven’t put a solid release date yet on TOR, but as I alluded to, it’s expected to be released sometime in Q4 of this year. Are you excited for TOR? Are you hoping to get into the beta? Tell us about your hopes and fears in the comment section, young Padawan.
