Fujitsu Arrows Tab F-01D To Get Possible Release On NTT DoCoMo [Fujitsu’s Waterproof Tablet, The Arrows Tab F-01D, May See A Japanese Release First

It’s got a name like a fighter jet and hasn’t even been technically announced yet, but the word is going out that Fujitsu’s waterproof tablet, the Arrows Tab F-01D, might see its first release date over in Japan via the carrier NTT DoCoMo.

The Fujitsu Arrows Tab F-01D is looking pretty sweet for a tablet, too, offering up a 10.1 inch display in WXGA resolution, an IMAP4430 dual-core processor running at one GHz, Android 3.2 (or Honeycomb, if you favor the sweet name for it), 16 gigs of onboard storage space backed up by a microSD card slot of indeterminate maximum size, microUSB and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a pair of cameras, a variety of connectivity options (including LTE, HSPA, GSM and more from there) and one key and wholly unusual feature, a waterproof casing.

Of course, when you hear the word “waterproof” applied to electronics, you pretty much have to have a red flag of skepticism spark up in your mind, asking the inevitable question: just how waterproof is it? Some people, even some electronics companies, like to say “waterproof” when they should really say “water-resistant”, meaning more that you can spill stuff on it and not lose the device completely. Waterproof, meanwhile, usually comes with a depth indicated–i.e., waterproof to 30 feet–that lets it go clearly under water. So the exact details on the waterproof capabilities aren’t yet known, but still, in a case like this any level of waterproofing, even just superficial, is good.

There’s also no word yet on pricing, but the current word says the Japanese market may end up with this in September, so pricing should emerge in fairly rapid fashion. Personally, I call it a good idea–nothing like being able to safely take your hardware through a rain storm or accidentally spill coffee on it and have it survive.

But what do you guys think? Would you like to see more water resistance from tablets like the Arrows Tab F-01D? Would you hit up an importer to lay hands on one? Or do you think that’s an unnecessary feature at best? Either way, the comments section is waiting for you to have your say, so head on down and tell us what you think!
