Fictional Kevin Butler Quits Sony [The PlayStation VP Of Everything Announces He's Leaving On Twitter, Could It Be That Sony Is Moving On From The KB Ad Campaign?]
Kevin Butler is the great fictional Sony Vice President, portrayed by comic and actor Jerry Lambert. He’s apart of marketing campaign for Sony by Los Angeles ad agency Deutsch/LA, and it’s been a huge boom for Sony, including Lambert as Butler making an heroic appearance at the 2010 Sony E3 press conference. Regardless of the success of the ad campaign, it may be over as the official Kevin Butler Twitter feed (operated by the copywriters at Deutsch/LA) has announced that Kevin Butler is ‘leaving’ Sony.

The “TheKevinButler” Twitter account Tweeted the following two days ago:
A man can only be made VP so many times, KB’s off to be PRESIDENT of my uncle’s new upstart company.
According to his new updates and Twitter profile, the fictional Butler is now the President at a new company “Economy Flooring” in Foster City, California (a suburb of San Francisco). Fake business cards on his Twitter page show such great job titles as “President, Shag Division” and “President, Laminate Laminating”, so the old Kevin Butler is still up to his old tricks.
At first glass, we assumed that Sony and Deutsch/LA were moving onto a new PlayStation ad campaign, and that there where phasing out the Butler character. But, since his move to “Economy Flooring”, Butler has continued to Tweet about PlayStation games and characters, like this one about LittleBigPlanet:
Just discovered that my carpet sales team is pretty unstoppable at making LittleBigPlanet levels. Their color & pattern work is phenomenal.
So, seems that it’s still be written with Sony in mind. It seems likely that they are moving on from the Kevin Butler commercials, but are keeping him around as a web character to shill for PlayStation via Twitter. Social Media is pretty powerful, if you haven’t heard.
What do you think about this? Are you sad that Kevin Butler is leaving Twitter?
