PAX Prime 2011: Halo: Reach Getting Major Title Update [Armor Lock Getting Serious Nerf, Will No Longer Remove Plasma Grenades, 343 Industries Also To Bring Back The Powerful Pistol]
PAX Prime is being held this weekend in Seattle, and Halo Fest – a Microsoft endorsed celebration of all things Halo is also being held concurrently with the show. Some major news is being reported by those in attendance – a major patch is coming to Halo: Reach from 343 Industries, who is maintaining the game after Bungie left to do their own thing. Armor Lock will be getting a serious nerf, and the uber pistol from Halo: Combat Evolved will be returning.

Armor Lock will now no longer make you invincible. Instead, it’ll just prevent most of the damage you take while in the mode. It’ll also no longer detach stuck plasma grenades to you, which has robbed thousands upon thousands of kills from players during many hours of Halo: Reach, surely.
In addition, when you do damage to players who have a low amount of shield left, the extra damage will carry over to the health bar, as opposed to stopping when the shields are gone. They’ve also removed the ability to stop a sword lunge with a melee attack, unless you’re also using a sword. Finally, there will be an option to remove the reticle bloom.
And, the grand finale is the fact that they are doing what gaming Joystiq is calling a “wholesale buff” of the pistol. Those who played Halo: Combat Evolved will remember the overpowered pistol. Maybe 343 is getting folks ready for this fall’s upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary – a remake of the first game in the Reach engine which is also promised to include an overpowered pistol. We hope so.
