Microsoft Windows 8 Will Feature Robust USB 3.0 Support

Lengthy Blog Post By Windows Chief Steven Sinofsky Confirms Robust Support For USB 3.0

In a very lengthy blog post on MSDN by Windows 8 chief Steven Sinofsky, he confirmed that Windows 8 will feature robust support for the USB 3.0. As the new USB standard has a theoretical speed of 5GB/s, expect lightning fast transfers and back-ups.

USB 3.0 is 10x faster than USB 2.0, and is expected to improve, among other things, a device’s battery life. As all PCs are expected to be equipped with USB 3.0 by 2015, it’s only natural for Microsoft to incorporate support for the standard on its newest operating system. Microsoft took great care to incorporate USB 3.0 support without compromising support for older USB standards.

But if you want to know just what USB 3.0′s speed actually means in real life applications, check out the video above. It features a few tests, and pits USB 3.0 against USB 2.0. Windows 8 made news earlier this August for announcing a Windows 8 app store.
