HP Clarifies: They Are Not Quitting The PC Business
Remember when we all thought that HP was going to be quitting the PC business? Well, as it turns out, they are not going to be quitting after all. But then again, they may sell their PC business, which while maybe not quitting — wouldn’t selling be sort of leaving. And leaving be sort of quitting.

That being said, the whole HP story seems to be a bit confusing these days. But more to the point here, we are going to pass on the details that have come from a letter that was received by Pocket-link and sent from Paul Hunter who is the head of HP’s Personal Systems in the UK and Ireland. And from that, you can try and judge what HP is going to do for yourself.
“I’d like to firstly clear up any misunderstanding that has arisen from the earnings announcement around the future of the Personal Systems Group,”
“There have been a number of incorrect stories saying that HP is quitting the PC business.
“Let me be absolutely clear in saying that at no stage has HP said it is quitting the PC business. Three options are being investigated, and whether the company is spun off, sold or kept in the HP portfolio, the team in the UK remains committed to creating and supporting great products and services.”
Anyway, as you have just read above, HP is not quitting. But at the same time they are not committing either. It seems they are rather undecided at this point and have made it clear that they may still spin the business off, sell it, or keep it. But remember, they are not quitting the PC business.
Bottom line here, it looks like HP is rather undecided at this point and things can still end up going in any number of directions. Me personally, I am not sure anyone is going to want to pony up the money to make the purchase and would place my guess on the outcome in the spinning off category. Of course, part of that deals with the fact that we have already seen Samsung (another large company) make it clear they do not want to buy.
