Facebook Will Release Photo Filters Instead Of Acquiring Instagram

Facebook Looks To Offer Photo Filters To Its Users By Buying Instagram But Instead Will Do It On Their Own

News has it that Facebook attempted to acquire Instagram but failed. Instagram is a mobile (iPhone) app which makes it simple to snap pictures, add some interesting filters, and share them with social networks. Facebook’s attempt to purchase the company has apparently fallen through so Facebook plans instead to release photo filters in its own mobile application.

Facebook is looking to make available over twelve different filters in a mobile app. Rumor is that Mark Zuckerberg is pressuring developers to create more filters before the application is released. More filter styles are supposed to help draw users from other photo applications over to Facebook’s.

There is no news of a release date or of which mobile platforms this app will be released to. Perhaps filters will be integrated into Facebook’s current application which perhaps would make more sense than creating another app altogether. Any way you look at it, this move is obviously another attempt to keep Facebook up to pace with its strengthening competitors.
