Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Will Feature Cross-Platform Play Between PS3, Windows & Mac [PS3, Windows & Mac Owners Get To Play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Together, Xbox 360 Players Left Out In The Cold]
Portal 2 was the first – and so far only – game on PS3 to utilize the console version of Valve’s immensely popular (and immensely awesome) Steamworks platform. Valve announced today that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be the next PS3 game to take advantage of Steam‘s offerings on console. In what capacity, you ask? Naturally, the answer is cross-platform play.

PS3 players will be able to test their FPS skills against PC and Mac players when Counter-Strike: Global Offense launches sometime next year. Of course, we’ve tried this whole “gamepad vs. keyboard and mouse” match up before, and the players using a keyboard and mouse usually end up wiping the floor with those using a gamepad, so to ensure that’s a level playing field, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will feature support for keyboard and mouse controls on PS3.
Of course, if you’d rather get your ass kicked in the most embarrassing way possible, the PS3 version will also support PlayStation Move controls. Xbox 360 owners will only be able to play with others of their kind, though, as Microsoft still refuses to allow Valve to develop a version of Steam for Xbox Live. So while PS3, Windows, and Mac owners are all having a great time blowing each other up, Xbox 360 players will be left out in the cold because Microsoft doesn’t want anything on Xbox Live if they can’t make any money off of it (or if another platform got it first).
There still hasn’t been a release date set for Global Offensive yet, but you can be sure that we’ll update once Valve dishes some more details. In the meantime, check out this shiny new trailer!
