Verizon Wireless Counsel Looks For Help From The President Concerning Patent Suits

Should The President Be Able To Step In To Stop The Banning Of Popular Devices?

The patent wars are certainly going strong with no end in sight. Companies are buying out other companies for nothing more than patent portfolios and now they are giving demands to each other to outright stop selling devices. Some courts are ruling in the favor of device bans while others are ruling the suits as childish. Is it time for some Presidential involvement?

Verizon Wireless chief counsel Randall Milch is requesting that President Obama step in to help put a stop to the foolishness. Sited are some of the negative impacts of this long-standing patent war and the banning of popular devices. Apparently the thought is that offending companies should only be forced to pay royalties rather than the outright banning of products.

The war of the patents does have an affect on innovation and the market. The question is whether or not the President should even have this type of influence or should the market and the courts be allowed to work it out?
