South Korea Working On Its Own Open-Source Smartphone OS [South Korea Is Working On A Non-Android Open Smartphone OS To Compete Against Apple iOS]

There’s something brewing in South Korea – something that could very well be big in the smartphone market in the coming years. According to sources, South Korea is working on its very own open source smartphone operating system for its local phone manufacturers. And yes, including Samsung; a brand known for using Google Android on its products.

South Korea is apparently developing its own open source smartphone operating system for its local phone manufacturers. The move is an effort to compete against the Apple iOS, as well as Google Android even if South Korea’s biggest phone manufacturer, Samsung, uses the latter. In fact, Samsung (along with LG) is joining the country’s efforts in developing the new operating system.

Initially hesitant about pitching in due to its close ties with Google, Samsung reportedly agreed to cooperate after Google announced its acquisition of Motorola. It’s also worth noting that Samsung has its own operating system called Bada, and its fate is now unknown now that this new collaborative effort is in place. The new South Korean-made OS is expected to debut by the end of the year, although Samsung and LG are still expected to continue its collaborations with Google Android.
