Samsung’s Galaxy S II May Have A Strange Distribution Scheme [Which Of The Big Four Carriers--AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, & T-Mobile--Won't Be Getting The Samsung Galaxy S II?]
Interesting news coming out today as word about the Samsung Galaxy S II’s release schedule emerges. While the final word will be hitting this Monday, according to reports, one particular tidbit slipped out early, and it’s becoming quite possible that one of the main four cell phone carriers–Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile–will find itself out in the cold for the release.

As for the answer to who’s not getting the Samsung Galaxy S II, it reportedly turns out Verizon will not be landing this one. The current word says that AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile will all be part of the big Samsung launch event set to hit this Monday, but meanwhile, Verizon will be promoting the devices already in its catalog.
The whys and wherefores behind this particular story, meanwhile, are even more interesting than you might expect. The biggest thing is that it’s not really a technical issue; at last report, Samsung’s working with Sprint, so working with Verizon’s network wouldn’t be a big stretch. No, it looks like this is going to be strictly a business decision, and a lot of it on Verizon.
See, we’re all pretty much looking for the iPhone 5 release date to be sometime in the late September / early October corridor, and that’s still the date to beat as it’s been backed up by several sources so far like the Wall Street Journal itself. That means that Samsung, who’s looking at something more like a late August / early September corridor, is pretty much going to be posed as Apple’s arch-rival. And since it’s likely that Verizon will be getting the iPhone 5, they’re probably not going to be too enthusiastic about forking over airtime to the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Moreover, we’re also looking the frequently delayed launch of the Droid Bionic, which is now looking at September 8th, which means Verizon would have three big names in its arsenal, and have to spread all the marketing, advertising and promotion around three ways instead of merely two.
So right now, it looks like Verizon won’t be handling the Samsung Galaxy S II when it lands. What do you guys think about that? Anyone planning to pick one of these up, but now looking to change plans in light of this news? Head on down to the comments section and let us know!
