Limbo Developer Playdead's Next Game Won't Be Out For Another 3.5 Years

Excited To See What's Next For Limbo Developer Playdead? You've Got A Long Wait Ahead Of You

Upon release, Limbo was hailed by many as a masterpiece; a truly visionary title that changed the way we look at indie games. It’s no wonder, then, that so many people are excited what developer Playdead Games has in store for us next, but unfortunately we’ve got a really long wait ahead of us – as in 3.5 years long. What? These things take time, man!

Speaking in an interview with EDGE Magazine, Playdead CEO Dino Patti announced that the team is using the Unity Engine for their next project, and explained why developers typically can’t just pull good games out of thin air and put them up for sale:

It’s like having a double product, doing both engine and game. And our next project is a little more ambitious than Limbo so there are a lot of things we don’t want to make from the beginning. A good game takes time, I think the new production will take at least three and a half years.

We still don’t know anything about this new project from Playdead, and from the sounds of it, it’ll be quite a while before any new details are shared. One thing’s for sure, though: if this new game is half as good as Limbo was, then that nearly four year wait will be worth it. Limbo is available now on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, and Steam, so if you haven’t checked it out yet, do so! That’s an order, buddy.
