Tablets Have Become The Latest Device To Bridge The Work/Life Balance, According To Staples Survey
Despite any personal opinions on the tablet, one has to admit that the devices have become rather popular lately. Granted, some claim they are good for getting work done and some claim they are good for nothing more than an entertainment device. Me personally, I fall somewhere in the middle, however that is a story for another day. Today we have some information coming by way of Staples Advantage and their recent tablet survey.

In short, according to Staples, they have stated that “tablets make it easy to be more productive when out of the office.” Of course, many will realize this is the same argument we have been having for quite some time in reference to smartphones. That being said, according to the survey, which consisted of only 200 tablet users;
- 60 percent of tablet owners even admit to powering on their tablet during vacation to check in with the office or do work.
- 80 percent of tablet owners say they enjoy an improved work/life balance because of the technology
In terms of the benefits that comes as a result of that last stat, it was noted that 60 percent cite increased productivity, about 75 percent use their tablet to check email and about one-third use a tablet to review and edit documents.
Sounds strangely familiar to what workers could (and have been doing) on company issued laptops. And for the smartphone tie-in — “more than” 40 percent of those surveyed claim the “primary motivator for buying a tablet” was to be able to stay connected with colleagues.
So what makes the tablet different from the laptop and smartphone they most likely already have and carry on a daily basis — the “convenience of portability” which was cited by more than 90 percent.
And just to make it clear that these business minded tablet users are not all about business, some 78 percent claim to have used the tablet in bed, some 30 percent have used it in a restaurant and some 35 percent have used it in the bathroom. Lets just hope that was not a bathroom in a restaurant because that would just be gross.
