Piracy Of Fox Shows Doubles Because Of Delay In Release On Hulu

Non-Paying Hulu Customers Now Wait Eight Days For Fox Shows, Piracy Doubles

The end of last month brought the announcement that non-paying customers on television streaming sites such as Hulu would have to wait eight days to see Fox Television shows once released. This is supposed to serve as an incentive for folks to sign up for paid subscriptions to these sites in order to see the shows immediately upon release. Well, apparently a lot of people didn’t get the hint because piracy has since doubled.

Did Fox see this development coming? Perhaps the trade-off of getting viewers back to watching these shows live (helping ad sales) was worth it. For many people who choose not to throw away precious money in a difficult recession choose to switch off the cable and they turn instead to free services such as Hulu. Now the more-than-a-week-long delay can seem excruciating.

Apparently the current place to turn to is Google as people would rather search for “download…” than fork over a few bucks a month for Hulu Plus.
