Nokia Unveils Symbian Belle, Along With Three "No-Compromise Mass-Market" Smartphones To Run It
It is Wednesday, which means it is the day that Nokia fans had been waiting for. And coming as expected, Nokia has come forward with an announcement. Also true to the original teaser, the announcement included the followup to Symbian Anna — Symbian Belle. But thankfully, there was more to the announcement than just Belle.

In addition to Belle, Nokia also unveiled the Nokia 700, 701 and 600 smartphones as well as the Nokia Essence Bluetooth Stereo Headset. But first, lets begin with Symbian Belle. This comes as “the latest in a series of planned software updates to the Symbian platform.” In other words, this should not be anything surprising and it also implies that we are going to see some additional Symbian updates in the future.
As to what Belle brings, the new features begin with an increase of home screens going from three to six. Some of the other perks that come along with Belle include five sizes for Live Widgets, a pull down menu and taskbar for notifications and “further enhancements” in terms of the web browsing experience. And lastly, Symbian Belle also has support for “single-tap” NFC sharing and pairing.
As far as the handsets go, the Nokia 700 features a 3.2 inch AMOLED ClearBlack display, 1GHz processor, 2GB internal memory, microSD card slot and a 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording and LED flash. In addition, the Nokia 700 measures in at 110 x 50.7 x 9.7 mm, weighs in at 96 grams and is being billed as Nokia’s “most eco-friendly smartphone.”
Next up we have the Nokia 701, which is said to be based on the design of the Nokia C7. The 701 features include a 3.5 inch ClearBlack display, 1GHz processor, 8GB internal storage, microSD card slot, front facing camera and an 8 megapixel camera on the back with HD video recording, 2x digital zoom and dual-LED flash.
The Nokia 600 will bring a 1GHz processor, 2GB internal storage, microSD card slot and a 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording and LED flash. The Nokia 600 also has an FM radio, is able to offer up to 60 hours of music playback and is being billed as both a “music-lover’s dream” and Nokia’s “loudest” phone at 106 Phons.
With that, all three smartphones are expected to debut shortly. And lastly, while these three handsets will arrive running Symbian Belle, other handsets including the N8, E6, E7, C6-01, C7 and the X7 will be upgradeable.
