Sony Tablet S Is the Name of the Device Previously Known as the Sony S1
Sony is also interested to enter the tablet business, but we’ve known that for a while now. There are two models that are rumored to be launched soon, the S1 and S2, which are expected to arrive ahead of IFA 2011 to be more precise, although today’s rumor doesn’t mention any launch dates.

What we have for you is the commercial name of the S1, the Sony Tablet S. The screenshot below shows that “Sony Tablet S” moniker, but doesn’t say anything about when it will hit stores.
The Tablet S will be a 9.4-inch tablet featuring a LED-lit TruBlack display, Android 3.1 Honeycomb, Universal IR remote capabilities, DLNA support and a “unique folded design.” The same screenshot suggests the Sony Tablet S is ready to play as it will offer “new release movies with Video Unlimited”, “over 6 million songs on Music Unlimited”, eBooks access via the Reader Store and pre-loaded games as the device will be PlayStation Certified.

Other features include SD/SDHC slot support, 5-megapixel back camera, 3-megapixel front facing camera, “Content Throw” music, images and movies sharing, USB Micro A Plug support, and “Honeycomb enhancements” like “QuickView” and “Quick Touch Panel” meant to improve browser load times and touchscreen responsiveness, respectively.
As for the S2, there are no details regarding its official name, but what could Sony call it if the S1 will be referred to as the Tablet S in stores? IFA 2011 is just around the corner, and since the German tech trade show is about to start in just over a week there’s plenty of time to find out more details about this two Sony tablets.
It will be interesting to see how these two Sony Honeycomb devices will perform in stores, especially against the other well-established Android competition out there. And considering that Apple is suing almost everyone out there with new tablet creations on their hands, should we assume the same treatment will be applied to Sony’s S1 and S2 tablets once they get official? Or is Apple mostly afraid of Samsung, Motorola or HTC when it comes to new Android devices, whether smartphones or tablets?
