Annoying From Dust PC DRM Getting The Axe Soon

Ubisoft Releasing Patch To Remove Online-Only DRM From PC Version Of From Dust, Expects Patch To Be Live In Two Weeks

Even though Ubisoft’s restrictive online-only DRM is apparently working for them, PC players hate them for it. I have to say, being recently introduced to the joys of PC gaming myself, it seems like Ubisoft is waging war on the PC crowd, making their paying customers deal with such a stupid DRM while pirates release a crack on day one anyway.

Well, good news disgruntled PC gamers, because Ubisoft is backtracking on their promise to make your life a living hell. An Ubisoft representative has posted to the Ubisoft forums, saying that they’re currently working on a patch that will remove the online-only DRM from the PC version of From Dust. Players are going to have two weeks before they can take their game offline, and Ubisoft blames the wait on the fact that they need to make sure that players who have From Dust saves on Ubisoft’s servers receive their game locally before the patch is released.

This kind of backtracking isn’t new to anyone who’s bought Ubisoft games in the past, as they’ve implemented this kind of DRM before, only to remove it due to fan outcry. Hey, Ubisoft, listen to me! Maybe next time, instead of screwing over your paying customers, you could just choose not to implement this kind of stupid DRM in the first place? That would be really great.
