Similar $99 HP TouchPad Deal Coming to Europe Too?
The HP TouchPad is a very strange phenomenon that we’re currently witnessing. The device, launched back in February, is the only webOS tablet made so far. It’s also the only webOS tablet the company will ever make as HP decided to dump the whole webOS project, cut its losses, and reinvent its business without focusing on any kind of mobile devices.

Why is it a strange phenomenon? Well the price has dropped to as low as $99 in the USA, and customers are buying the device like crazy. It’s quite surprising to see, an otherwise quite capable piece of hardware, get so popular now that webOS is dying.
Will HP extend this cheap TouchPad offer to other countries? That’s hard to say at this time, but it looks like at least on UK retailer, Dixons, is ready to offer a similar TouchPad sale, at least according to one of their Twitter accounts:
Dixons.co.uk: HP Touchpad SALE, Limited Stock online from later today. £89 for the 16gb and £115 for the 32gb
That’s definitely an impressive deal, and the device will probably fly off the shelves, although it won’t be as cheap as the U.S. version. The prices mentioned above, converted in U.S. dollars translate into $146 for the 16GB version and $189 for the 32GB version, are still very affordable for a device that never reached glory while alive, and that’s not likely to become any more interesting after death.
Unlike paintings, from recently deceased artists, that tend to go higher and higher in price, and therefore more and more popular once their creator is gone, the HP TouchPad will not have such an optimistic faith. Whatever you end up using the device for, and no matter what OS you end up installing on it, the TouchPad will become obsolete soon. And while a cheap TouchPad is surely a deal not to be missed, you’ll have to ask yourself, what’s really the point of buying the device anyway?
Let’s also hear it from international readers, have you found any TouchPad deals in your local stores? Are they similar to current U.S. prices for the device?
