Samsung Epic Touch 4G (Galaxy S II) Gets Release Date for Sprint

First Galaxy S II Android Smartphone Hitting U.S. Stores on September 9 Says New Rumor

The Samsung Galaxy S II, one of the best-sold Android devices of this year, is yet to become available in the USA, which makes its selling performance all the more interesting.

The device is going to be soon available from all the major U.S. carriers, as Samsung is preparing for a special media event, scheduled for Monday, August 29. That’s when we should find all the official details regarding the U.S. availability and pricing for this high-end Samsung Android handset.

But until then we have found an interesting new rumor suggesting that Sprint may be the first carrier of the Big Four to have a U.S. Galaxy S II flavor out in stores. Sprint’s version, initially dubbed as the Samsung Within, was than said to be named the Samsung Epic Touch 4G. Than that changed to Samsung Epic 4G Touch, but, whatever the mobile operator does decide to call it, it’s certain that it will have a WiMAX-enabled Galaxy S II in stores ready for its customers.

Today we see a new name change for the device, or better said a correction. It would appear that the right product name for Sprint’s Galaxy S II is Samsung Epic Touch 4G after all, according to Sprint Feed. The same source claims that the phone will be available in stores staring with Friday, September 9. The carrier will not launch the device on September 11, since that’s the tenth commemoration of the 9/11 attacks.

We have no pricing details for Sprint’s Galaxy S II yet, but considering that its predecessor, the Epic 4G (Galaxy S model with full QWERTY keyboard) was available for a premium price at launch, $249.99 on contract, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Sprint use a similar pricing tactic for the Epic Touch 4G.
