HP TouchPad Selling For $99

One Day After HP Announces They're Giving Up On webOS Hardware, Best Buy Clears The Shelves With 80% Off Original Price

Oh boy. Just a day after HP announces that they’re leaving the webOS hardware business, we see the first drastic price slashing of the HP TouchPad. Best Buy Canada offered a crazy price on the 16GB HP TouchPad, offering the still-kinda-new tablet for just $99. It’s already sold out, but are these desperate prices what is ahead for the webOS hardware?

This sale is what you can expect from Best Buy. According to earlier rumors this week, Best Buy has sold less than 10% of the TouchPad tablets they purchased from HP. Per those rumors, Best Buy has been desperate to get rid of these tablets because they’re taking up space in Best Buy’s stores and warehouses. Best Buy Canada may be taking a loss on the 16GB TouchPads just because they want them out of their stores.

No word on if Canadian shoppers can expect this special $99 price in their local Best Buy store, but it is listed as a sale price through 8/22/2011, so it may be worth calling over to your Best Buy and asking them if they are offering one for $99. Also, no idea on if this great price for a mediocre product will soon spread to the American Best Buys.

Here’s a brief rundown of the HP TouchPad’s specs:

  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB or 32GB memory
  • 9.7-inch screen
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • webOS 3.0.2 operating system

Glad you didn’t buy the TouchPad at launch? The HP TouchPad 16GB was $499.99 at launch and the 32GB model was $599.99.
