Google+ Dominated By A Few Users; Made Up Of 48% Ghost Population

A Web Representation Of Data Mined From Google+ Shows How The Social Network Is Growing

Google+ is growing at such an alarming rate, that it’s been dubbed as the fastest growing social network of all time. It could soon surpass Twitter, and place second to Facebook in the social networking arena. Having achieved an impressive growth within such a short time, one wonders what kind of user culture there is within the site.

Someone took the time to collect data of user interaction and activity of Google+ users. The crawled data is then visually-represented as a web, which shows that there is a tightly-knit group of users in the site (which he suspects are Google employees, their immediate connection, and alpha users). These people are loosely connected to some of site’s biggest users of Google+ that include Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and other well-known personalities. The data he collected also shows 48% of users are yet to post on their accounts.

But Brad Horowitz told the person who collected the data:

As we’ve disclosed, users are more than twice as likely to share to a circle as they are to share publicly. The vast majority of data, you can’t see. There is huge activity in the edges that are dark to you.

I love Google+. It works for me, and my privacy. I don’t mind sharing my name to the world. I am proud of it. and it gives me absolute enjoy to enjoy the circles which FaceBook never really cared much for as far as extreme privacy is concerned.
