Gamescom 2011: Team Ninja Removing Dismemberment From Ninja Gaiden 3

Ninja Gaiden 3 Won't Feature Decapitation Or Dismemberment, Team Ninja Thinks Fans Don't Want To See It

Ah, Ninja Gaiden. It’s brutally difficult, fast-paced, but perhaps most importantly, it’s bloody. Team Ninja already said that they’re not going to tone down the gore in Ninja Gaiden 3, and while there may be a lot of blood to spill in this upcoming installment, there won’t be any heads to lob off or any arms to slice free from your enemy’s torso.

That’s because Team Ninja is removing dismemberment, one of the series’ more brutal (yet awesome) features, from Ninja Gaiden 3. They’re not doing this in response to some kind of moral outcry, either, instead telling IGN at Gamescom that the decision was made because “We don’t think people want to see that anymore. They’ve already seen it.”

Yeah, we’ve already seen it, but like I said above, it was awesome. If you ask me, that kind of brutal violence is an integral part of the 3D Ninja Gaiden games, and there’s no better payback than slicing the limbs off a baddie who just killed you three times in a row. As IGN points out, Team Ninja says they’re removing these features in an effort to make the game more realistic, but they’re failing to realize that things like decapitation and dismemberment are realistic things, especially when necks and shoulders are hit with heavy, razor-sharp blades at full force.

It’s times like these that really make you miss Tomonobu Itagaki.
