Acer Aspire 3951 Launch Date Revealed
If you were looking to get your hands on one of the new Ultrabooks that you’ve probably been hearing about for some time now, you’ll be happy to know that Acer’s version, the Acer Aspire 3951, will be launching sooner than you might have expected. And this purported MacBook Air competitor may be able to play in that particular sandbox after all.

We heard about the Acer Aspire 3951 just a couple weeks ago, but now we’ve got something of a launch date for this one, and you’ll be able to pick up one of these in September, according to reports. Oddly, the Acer Aspire 3951 that you’ll see on shelves will bear precious little resemblance to the one it originally began its product life cycle as; it’s gone through fully two redesigns since its inception, and as such, you’ll only be able to find these in the 13.3 inch size. It will run a Sandy Bridge processor, and offer up your choice of hard drive sizes in 250 gig and 500 gig, or you’ll be able to forget the hard drive entirely and go with a 160 gig solid state drive. Plus, you’ll get wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, an HDMI port to plug into bigger screens, USB, a memory card slot, and more besides.
The interesting part is that, while this will weigh a bit more than a MacBook Air at 1.4 kg (just over three pounds for those who favor the imperial) but will be thinner than the MacBook Air at 13mm thick.
Further down side, however, comes when you check out the price tag, set to run between $768 and $960, mostly owing to the Sandy Bridge chipset’s pricing.
Still though, as far as ultraportable notebooks go, this one looks like it could be a player, at least from the spec list. When it comes to things like this, though, I love opening the floor up for you guys. Think that the Acer Aspire 3951 can stand up against the Apple juggernaut? Is the ultra-small form factor worth the premium pricing? Or is this one asking way too much cash and putting up too little power in return, especially when you can get a slightly bigger laptop for quite a bit less money? Either way, we love hearing from you, so hit the comments section and tell us what you think!
