Razer Announces Its New Tiamat Gaming Headset
The last couple days have been pretty big ones for gaming news thanks to the Gamescom show, still running right now, and still putting out news. But gaming, as we’re all well aware, isn’t just about software, it’s also about hardware. And that’s why it’s great to be bringing you news about Razer’s latest set of gaming headphones, the Razer Tiamat.

Gamers out there, especially those who favor the pen and paper roleplaying games, are probably already familiar with the name Tiamat as that of a massive multicolored (or, of course, chromatic) dragon with a variety of heads. The Razer Tiamat, meanwhile, offers up 7.1 channel surround sound. You might think it’s more of a simulated surround, and you might be somewhat right, but the Tiamat is wholly unique in that it’s the first set of headphones ever, according to reports, to offer up ten different drivers in the headphones themselves, five to an earcup. Three of them in each earcup are devoted to left or right channel, depending on the side, while both share a “center channel” driver that fires at the same time, and the last driver on either side serves as a subwoofer.
But, as is the case with any gaming headset, you’ve also got a boom mike off to the side for you to talk into, which is retractable and swing-mounted for optimal placement. It’s also got an inline control feature so you can quickly adjust volume as needed.
If you want to go ears-on with the Razer Tiamat, they’re actually showing a set out at the Gamescom show right now, and they’ll be available sometime in the fourth quarter (likely in time for holiday shopping frenzies) for $179.99.
So what do you guys think of these? Like the thought of a headset that puts more sound quality out there than many people’s home theater speaker array? Or do you find this overpriced for what you get? Either way, the comments section awaits, so before you get into your next game, head on down and tell us what you think!
