Evernote Buys Skitch, Lowers The Price From $19.95 Down To $0.00

Evernote Acquires Skitch, Makes It Free & States It Will "Make Evernote Better"

Evernote has officially acquired Skitch, and for those wondering what that will mean for either service. Well, at a first look it seems like there is going to be more than a few benefits. Just for starters, the price of Skitch for the Mac has been slashed to free, we are expecting to see an Android app released sometime today and we also see a promise that “Skitch will make Evernote better.”

That being said, Mac users can download Skitch by way of the App Store and the price has been dropped from $19.99 all the way down to $0.00. And for those who may have recently made the purchase and are feeling burned, sorry to disappoint but nothing in terms of news on that front just yet. Otherwise, existing Skitch users can continue to use the product without change and new users (that also happen to be Evernote users) will be able to login to Skitch using the Evernote username and password.

Evernote has a long history of developing handwriting recognition and digital ink. The addition of Skitch allows for a dramatic expansion of these capabilities. Today, Evernote and Skitch work well together — drag an image from Evernote into Skitch, annotate, and drag it back in seconds. On Android, when both apps are installed, a tap of the Evernote icon sends images from Skitch into Evernote. In the future, Evernote and Skitch will be more tightly integrated with one another.

And for those who happen to already be using Skitch on the Mac, worry not because the Evernote team has stated that “everything you currently love about Skitch will stay the same.” But perhaps a little nicer, they also plan to “quickly” introduce lots of “new, exciting stuff.”

Moving past Skitch for Mac and into the news for Android users. At present we are still not seeing Skitch as available in the Android Market, however it is expected to be available today and it will be free to download and free to use.

In addition, there was also mention that Skitch will be expanding to other platforms. In fact, the Evernote team has stated that Skitch will come available for “every desktop and mobile platform under the sun.”

And lastly, for those wondering about the integration between Evernote and Skitch, at present we are still waiting for more, however things look promising. At present it was noted that;

Using Evernote and Skitch together today is easy. Drag images from Evernote into Skitch for Mac, annotate and edit them, then use the “Drag Me” feature in Skitch to bring it back into Evernote. Or, simply take screenshots in Skitch and drag them into Evernote. Our goal is to make this experience much more streamlined.
