Motorola Droid HD Spotted in the Wild, Coming After Droid Bionic?
Despite what you may have heard this week, Motorola will still have to fend for itself until Google’s purchase go through. That means staying as competitive as possible in the mobile business by continuing to launch new and better, Android devices.

The Droid Bionic is Motorola’s upcoming flagship handset, but the phone will only be hitting Verizon. Moto could surely use at least one extra Android handset that wouldn’t just be a CDMA/LTE-only affair. That’s where this Motorola Droid HD may step in, assuming the image we’re looking at below is showing the real thing. Of course the name suggests the Droid HD would be heading to Big Red too since the “Droid” handset family name is used exclusively by Verizon, so other carriers will have to launch it under a different product name.
The Droid HD has been spotted in the wild, and it may be Motorola’s response to Samsung and HTC, manufacturers that are expected to launch quite a few hot new Android handsets, at least in the USA, if not internationally too.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is expected to hit all U.S. carriers at some point later this year, with the Samsung Hercules, T-Mobile’s version, standing out of the crowd. HTC, on the other hand, has at least two new handsets lined up to be launched, the HTC Ruby/Vigor and the HTC Holiday.
The Droid HD in the image above is said to feature a 4.5-inch display, 8-megapixel camera, 1,080p video recording, and an “ultra thin design”. That suggestion seems to indicate we’re not necessarily looking at an LTE-ready device here, considering the extra thickness of the Droid Bionic, Moto’s first 4G LTE handset.
While the Droid HD still needs official confirmation from Motorola, it would seem the device would come hot off the heels of the Droid X2, Droid 3 and Droid Bionic, and just like these illustrious predecessors, the device is probably meant to be a high-end device.
