Gamescom 2011: CD Projekt Red Details The Witcher 2 Update 2.0
CD Projekt Red took some time at Gamescom today to detail the next major update they have in the pipeline for The Witcher 2, update 2.0. Update 2.0 will be out late next month, and CD Projekt Red promises a bunch of new gameplay new features with the update, so head past the break for all the details.

First off let’s get the boring stuff out of the way: CD Projekt Red says that update 2.0 will bring some new technical enhancements and gameplay tweaks to The Witcher 2, but those are just par for the course for post-launch patches. What’s really exciting about 2.0 is the addition of Dark Mode, a new difficulty level that lands right under Insane Mode, which adds new “dark weapons” to the game. CD Projekt Red says that new dark weapons pack a pretty hefty punch, but didn’t go into detail about any of them.
In addition to Dark Mode, patch 2.0 will also add an Arena to the game, where you can go to fight endless waves of monsters, picking up some extra XP and all the loot they drop in the process. Finally, there will be a shiny new tutorial added in response to complaints from those who struggled through the opening of the game (and good thing too, because there seems to be a lot of you).
Update 2.0 for The Witcher 2 will drop on September 29th and will cost players absolutely nothing. Never fear Xbox 360 gamers, because CD Projekt Red also said that update 2.0 will be included with the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 when it launches next year, along with all other DLC that CD Projekt Red has released for the PC version. Now that’s a game developer for you.
