Starbucks Is Now Giving Away iPhone Apps For Free

This is not the first time Starbucks has gave away Apple cards. Some will have likely seen and/or used the iTunes music cards that offered free music downloads. Anyway, this time the cards will again be offering free downloads, however they may be a bit more exciting as compared to a single audio download.

Well, more exciting at least in terms of them potentially being worth more. The new cards are for the App Pick of the Week promotion in which Starbucks customers can get an app for free. This first card that can be found is for Shazam Encore, which for those wondering — currently sells for $5.99. Hence the potentially worth more comment.

The App Pick of the Week cards can be found in Starbucks retail locations sitting close to the register and will contain the app icon, app name, a brief description of the app and perhaps most important — the promo code that will allow you to download the app for free.

As for the tie-in, and perhaps the reason why Shazam Encore was given the privilege of being the first app to be highlighted — Starbucks and Shazam recently ran a promotion together. The event was a digital scavenger hunt and as a part of the journey, those playing had to identify a Lady GaGa song using Shazam on their phone.

That said, maybe now you can feel a bit better about buying high-priced (but still tasty) coffee considering you are getting something additional thrown in for free. Then again, I can only imagine that we will see some people stop in and head on up to the register with the sole purpose of grabbing one of these cards without actually making a purchase. Either way, it seems like a decent promotion, but leaves us curious as to which apps will be highlighted moving forward.
