Samsung Components Make Up 26% Of The iPhone

In The Midst Of The Apple Vs. Samsung Debacle, Research Firm Examines How Much Of Apple Devices Comes From Samsung

We all know Samsung and Apple are embroiled in several legal battles around the world over some of the former’s devices that the latter claims infringe upon its copyrights. Apple already saw victory in Germany in spite of suspicions that Apple misrepresented the Galaxy Tab 10.1′s size. The very same case is waiting for decision in Netherlands. Apple managed to stop advertisements of the Tab in Australia. While in the UK, the Galaxy Tab 10.1′s still for sale.

But we all knew from the start that Samsung is one of Apple’s biggest parts suppliers. Even in the midst of all these, the two companies haven’t severed their business relationship. So for the curious, market-research firm iSuppli dissects the components of the Apple iPhone to determine how much of the device is made by rival company Samsung.

So how much of the iPhone is made by Samsung? A considerable 26%, iSuppli says. That percentage includes important parts such as the flash memory, the DRAM, and the applications processor. Only time can tell if what’s happening between the two companies right now would lead to the end of their business relationship (like a couple who files for divorce citing irreconcilable differences).

But if Apple is indeed working on the A6 chip without Samsung’s input, then that possibility might be completely unbelievable.
