Google Launches Catalogs App For The iPad

Google Catalogs App Released For The iPad, Will Also Arrive On Android Tablets Sometime "Soon"

Google has announced their latest app, Google Catalogs. The app is presently available for the iPad and can be found by way of the iOS App Store. And as the name would lead one to believe, Google Catalogs brings catalog shopping (and browsing) to the tablet.

The app is free to download, comes as version 1.0 and requires iOS 3.2 or later. At this time, the app is only available for the iPad, however Google did make mention that another version for Android tablets was in the works. Sadly though, no timeline was given as to when we can expect to see that land in the Android Market.

Google Catalogs is essentially a digital version of the paper catalogs that we have come to expect in our snail-mailboxes. Except, Google Catalogs takes many many catalogs and packages them into one app. According to the details we have seen so far, some of the catalogs that are included in the app are;

Anthropologie, Bare Escentuals, Bergdorf Goodman, Crate and Barrel, L.L. Bean, Lands’ End, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom,Pottery Barn, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sephora, Sundance, Tea Collection, Urban Outfitters and Williams-Sonoma.

Breaking that down a bit further, here are the features of the app.

  • Interact: Zoom in to see products up close, tap on tags to learn more about an item or, in some catalogs, view inspiring photo albums and videos.
  • Find products in nearby stores: When an item catches your eye, instantly find it in a store near you or tap “Buy on Website” to visit the merchant online.
  • Express your creativity: Create a collage of your favorite catalog pages and products. If you need inspiration, you can check out collages created by others.
  • Share with friends: Email a product or collage to all your shopping buddies.
  • Get instant access to new catalogs: Add catalogs to your Favorites and get notified each time a new issue arrives.
  • Discover new products and brands: Search for products within or across multiple catalogs to find exactly what you’re looking for.
