Gamescom 2011: Sony Announces Price Cut For PS3
‘Tis the season for price cuts, it appears. Earlier this year, Nintendo cut the price on Mario Kart Wii bundles to begin making way for the Wii U, and then just last week they dropped the price on 3DS in an attempt to breathe a new life into the handheld after a few months of lower-than-expected sales.

Never one to be outdone, Sony has jumped on the price cut bandwagon as well. During their pre-Gamescom press conference today, Sony announced a new price point for the PS3, saying that from here on out, it’ll cost $249.99 in the US, €249.99 in Europe, and ¥24,980 in Japan. The last time we saw the PS3 drop in price was when those sleek-looking slim models were released – the PS3 has sat at $299 since the slim’s release back in 2009.
Now all we need is Microsoft to bring the price down on Xbox 360s and we’re golden. Will they though? Xbox 360 sales are still strong thanks to Kinect, so they may want to keep the price where it’s at for a while, but with both the Wii and the PS3 now sporting price points lower than that of the 360, that’ll definitely put some pressure on Microsoft to implement a price cut of their own. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any potential price cuts for the Xbox 360, so keep it tuned here to TFTS!
