Sonic 4: Episode 2 Still Exists, New Info Coming 'Very Soon'

Good news, Sonic fans! Even though we haven’t heard much of anything from Sonic the Hedgehog 4 in the past eight months or so, Sega says that Episode 2 is still alive and kicking. This is how you make an episodic game, right?

Truthfully, I thought that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was pretty much dead now that Sonic Generations – a game which aims to accomplish the exact same thing Sega set out to do with Sonic 4 – has entered the picture. According to Sega West CEO Mike Hayes though, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 experienced strong sales across all platforms, and that’s enough for them to move ahead with the second episode:

It did very well and it continues to do well. Particularly when it gets a little shot in the arm with some promotion or some price activity, sales are quite phenomenal. Its downloaded clearly over a million units, so its sold particularly well and continues to sell.

Hayes also said we can expect new information on the missing follow-up episode “very soon,” but with Sonic Generations on tap for a November release, will there still be a market for it? I’m sure Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 will sell at least relatively well no matter when it’s released, but considering that Episode 1 was released back in October and we still haven’t seen anything from Episode 2, it begs the question of whether or not Sega actually had a plan when they started work on Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
