Sony Cutting The Price Of Google TV HDTVs
Google TV got a lot of buzz in the tech blogs when it first came out, but after mixed-to-poor reviews, we haven’t heard much since then. We assume Google and the manufacturers are back in the labs, working on something new, but in the meantime, the price of Google TV devices is slipping. Logitech recently dropped the Revue set-top Google TV box to $99, and now, Sony is slashing the prices of their LCD TVs with built-in Google TV functionality across the board.

Here’s how the new prices line up:
- The 24-inch Sony Google TV was $600, it’s now $299.
- The 32-inch Sony Google TV was $800, it’s now $499.
- The 40-inch Sony Google TV was $1,000, it’s now $799.
- The 46-inch Sony Google TV was $1,400, its now $999.
Those aren’t bad prices, and if you’re a huge programming or Android nerd who wants to mess around with Google TV and needs a new HDTV to boot, you may want to pick one up. It’s also probably a safe bet that Google will continue to support and update Google TV. It is a heavy modified version of Android and IP-connected HDTVs are hot right now, so Google probably won’t be giving up on it yet.
Still no word on when we’ll see the second generation of Google TV gear. After the smash success of Android, it seemed like a lot of HDTV manufacturers had suddenly signed onboard to produce HDTVs with built-in Google TV functionality. However, the poor sales of the Logitech Revue and Sony HDTVs may have been a wet blanket on all that excitement.
Tell us, do you think these Sony Google TV HDTVs are a good buy? Or are you staying far, far away?

I just bought mine yesterday. For the price why the hell not! Finally we are getting a central and functional entertainment hub for our homes! In my humble opinion this is the next “iPod” bubble that’s developing. I’m a big time apple snob… And though apple has their own device, it cannot compare with what google is doing. Google’s at the head of the pack. Perhaps in a few years we’ll start seeing Google stores poppin’ up. You heard it here first!
Had one but is was rubbish! Gave it back and got an Xbox with a 3DTV, all the entertainment I need. Love the Zune services on it.
