Valve Announces Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Valve Announces Counter-Strike Global Offensive Expansion, Out Early Next Year On XBLA, PSN & Steam

After a morning full of rumors, Valve has hopped on the chance to announce the next installment in the Counter-Strike series, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. If the prospect of a new Counter-Strike game has you bouncing off the walls in excitement, then good news, because all of the details can be found after the break.

Okay, so calling it a new Counter-Strike game might be a little bit misleading, because the way Valve describes it, it sounds more like an expansion on the original. Slated for an early 2012 release on Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, and Steam (for PC and Mac), Valve says that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will feature new characters, maps, and weapons, along with some revamped maps from the classic Counter-Strike game.

It’s also coming equipped with some new modes and support for matchmaking and leaderboards. Sound too good to be true? Well, you certainly aren’t dreaming, and it gets even better if you’ve got a ticket to PAX in your possession: Valve says they’ll have a playable build of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to show off at the expo later this month.
