Nintendo Getting Investor Pressure To Make iPhone Games

Following Nintendo's Stock Losses & Disappointing Nintendo 3DS Sales, Some Call For Nintendo To Move To iPhone Touch Games

A new Nintendo console was once the thing that every kid wanted for their birthday, but in recent years the younger generation has flocked to the iPad and iPhone and the touch-friendly iOS games. Nintendo has continued to say that they will continue to offer fuller experiences on their dedicated hardware, but after the implosion and weak launch of the Nintendo 3DS, more and more Japanese investors are calling for Nintendo to develop and publish iOS games.

Bloomberg reports that several Japanese investors are pressuring the company to develop iPhone mobile games. The idea of Nintendo buying iPhone developers and running them as subsidiaries has also been raised. However, the idea is unpopular with Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. Iwata is the protégée of long time Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi. Yamauchi is credited with turning Nintendo from a playing card manufacturer in the late 1940s to one of the most powerful electronics companies in the world by the time he stepped down in 2002.

Iwata has taken a hard stance, claiming that Nintendo will never give up and produce mobile games  for other hardware as long as he’s in charge. Although Iwata has been fairly popular among investors, and even has topped some “Best CEO” lists in the past, his job security may not be has great moving forward, considering that Nintendo investors may be unhappy with the stock’s recent downslide back to where it was in 2004.

The Pokemon Company is an independent subsidiary of Nintendo that is responsible for all the marketing and merchandising of the popular Pokemon video game franchise for Nintendo. They licensed an iPhone game earlier this year, although Nintendo made sure to the press that they had nothing to do with that. Does Nintendo need to go to iPhone games in order to survive?

I love the iPhone, and iPod touch, in fact I plan on buying the 5th iPod Touch the day it releases! I am also an avid Nintendo and Sony fan! So technically my review isn’t very bias. However, i don’t think the iPod is well suited for video gaming. While it does have impressive specs, the lack of physical button really makes gameplay much more complicated than it needs to be. Nintendo is a dedicated gaming company. It’s consoles and handhelds are DESIGNED for gaming. The iPod touch does have a movement sensor, gyroscope, and a touch screen. However, so do the Nintendo 3DS, the future Wii U, and even the future PlayStation Vita. I grew up in the ’90s, so I, personally, am accustomed to full-fledged games that are only on gaming systems, such as the PlayStation’s Final Fantasy 7, or the Nintendo 64′s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and especially the extremely popular Nintendo only series Mario and Pokemon. I conclude that the iPod Touch is an extremely high-tech device, great for multimedia, and social networking purposes, however, leave the gaming to Nintendo apple. A tip to Nintendo, I recommend you stick to gaming however, because Apple clearly has you beat when it comes to multimedia.

I would like to agree, all Nintendo 3DS needs is Facebook, Twitter, 3DS mail, Skype, 3DS Apps, most important would be a lighter device, brighter 3D screen, longer lasting battery up to 9-12 hours of gameplay on 3DS with the same slider, a new placement for the stylus instead of putting it in the back where its difficult to reach especially in gameplay, so basically adding: social networks, email, Skype, Apps, a better/faster/9hr battery life & more feautures similar to PS Vita & its all good! Don’t let PS Vita win the war, i first had my Nintendo Gameboy in 1990′s!!
