LG P220 Gets A Spec List And Shipping Date

LG P220 Gets Its Marching Orders But The Price Still Unclear On LG's New Ultraportable

It was way back in the depths of Computex 2011, just about three months ago, that we first got introduced to the LG P220 laptop, and though the news isn’t all good, or even all there, what we do know about this one so far will make it pretty compelling to those looking for a very portable and still fairly powerful piece of hardware.

Much of what we’d originally projected has in fact come to pass, with the launch to start in Korea followed by Europe and then possibly a wider go from there. The Core i7 originally projected to be an option here has been pulled, and battery life is still floating around 5.5 hours, which isn’t really that great. Meanwhile the 12.5 inch IPS widescreen display is still in play, as is one USB 2.0 port (not 3.0, sadly), an HDMI output, and wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity. You’ll also have your choice of colors to go with, though they all involve the word “pearl”, specifically, white pearl, pink pearl and blue pearl.

But where the LG P220 really shines is with its overall size, measuring in at just .82 inches high closed and weighing a meager three pounds, calling this “ultraportable” is almost an insult matched up against its actual portability.

While this isn’t a half-bad piece of equipment in its own right–some are actually already referring to this as a discount MacBook Pro–it’s important to note that Intel and its Ultrabook line may pose some serious problems for this model in the not too distant future. A second problem is that LG isn’t talking about price tags yet, although they’re looking to start shipping these this month. Considering that “this month” has a whopping 19 days left to it, it probably would be a good idea for LG to start talking about how much you’re going to have to shell out for one of these so we can start making comparisons against all the other brands of laptop out there.

So what do you guys think here? Think the LG P220 will be able to hold its own out against the variety of competitors it will encounter? Or do you think that this one’s going to get run over by the Ultrabook line when it makes its appearance? Would you get one when they come out? The comments section is waiting and there’s plenty to discuss, so head down and lodge your opinion within!
