HP TouchSmart 520 All In One PC Gets Leaked
Following HP of late has become an interesting little trip as they keep bringing out little surprises for us to catch, and none of them look like the classic beige boxes of yore. And they continue on with a leaked video about a new desktop, the HP TouchSmart 520, that departs from the standard form factor and instead gives us a heap of all in one goodness.

The video that leaked out didn’t leave a lot of information in terms of specs on the TouchSmart 520, but watching the video carefully revealed a few nuggets that may change by the time the actual product emerges. There are at least two USB ports on this thing, likely 2.0 but possibly 3.0, as well as a memory card reader that works with SD, MMC, and Memory Stick cards. It’s clearly geared for entertainment (one of the things we actually suggested they do with an earlier Friday top list), with Beats audio for the sound and a big high-def touch screen for the display. It’s held up by a pair of “sweeping display arms” that allow the screen to be adjusted according to the user’s perspective.
Other details, sadly, are short on the ground in terms of processor, RAM and hard drive size, graphics packages (though whatever they are, they’re actually looking pretty good) and other connectivity options. Still though, I don’t think HP is going to skimp too hard on the hardware package unless they’re trying to keep the price down, which is definitely a palatable option in its own right.
But this is the kind of thing that’s going to help remake HP’s image, I think–they’ve been trying for some time now to shed that “beige-box” image and become “cool” like Apple, and it’s this kind of thing that’s really going to help them. Unusual form factors, unexpected capability, and just in general surprising everybody is going to be what really gets them to that “cool” rank they desire.
So what do you guys think? Am I right in figuring that the HP TouchSmart 520 is going to be the kind of thing that elevates HP to its desired status? Or is this a case of too little too late for the changing company? The comments section awaits you, so head on down and ring in on HP’s newest PC!
