Redbox Partners With Foursquare, Means Discounts For Those Who Check-In

Renting A Movie With Redbox? Check-In First With Foursquare & Get A Discount Up To $1.00

For better or worse, we watched as Netflix decided to change a few things up in terms of their streaming and DVD rental plans back in mid-July. In short, that meant lots of users who wanted to keep both streaming and DVD’s by mail were going to be paying a bit more each month. And well, it seems fair to say that this caused many to reconsider their movie needs.

Me personally, I ditched the DVD’s by mail and have settled in with a streaming only plan. Of course, this was made easy by the fact that I had been considering the move anyway. Needles to say, I am now a Redbox customer for my occasional DVD needs.

The good news here with that, Redbox has recently announced a new partnership with Foursquare. And its one that will mean discounts for those who check-in using Foursquare at any of the Redbox movie rental kiosks.

“With more than 27,800 locations nationwide, mobile allows redbox to hyper-localize our engagement efforts,” said Amy Gibby, vice president of marketing, redbox. “Foursquare significantly expands our mobile touch points and unlocks new ways for consumers to engage with redbox at local kiosks.”

And while this all sounds like great news, we have to point out that this is a limited time only promotion. In fact, its being billed as the “Redbox 10 Days of Deals” campaign. Yup, it will be running for 10 days, from August 15th till August 24th.

Bottom line, if you visit a Redbox location and check-in during one of those days you will get a “unique daily discount” code which will range in savings from $0.10 up to $1.00. The codes can then be used during your rental transaction that day. In other words, make sure you check-in before you begin the rental process or else your code will end up going to waste.

And lastly, for anyone else new to Redbox and looking to get the most, here are a few tricks that my family has learned. First, download and use the iPhone and/or Android app. Second, use those apps or sit at home on a regular computer and reserve your movie that way because it makes it much simpler and quicker once you get on site.
