Vudu Now Streaming On The iPad

Vudu Brings Streaming Movies To The iPad, Goes The Way Of The Web App

Walmart recently announced the integration with Vudu movie streaming on the Walmart.com website. And as of today, it looks like those hoping to stream a Vudu movie will be able to do so using the iPad. Though, we should point out up front — do not head to the iOS App Store and begin searching for an app.

You got it, don’t bother searching because you are not going to find one. The iPad support for Vudu movies comes by way of a web app.

VUDU, a leading subscription-free, video-on-demand movie service and wholly owned subsidiary of Walmart stores, has optimized the navigation experience of VUDU.com to enable millions of iPad owners to rent or buy entertainment content and then stream it easily through any iPad browser.

All you need to do is fire up the web browser, surf over to Vudu.com and begin to search for the movie you want to watch. Of course, while the Vudu support is not in the form of a native application, there is still the option to add the link as a shortcut by clicking the “Add to Home Screen” button using Safari on the iPad.

Otherwise, while there was not anything super specific as to why Walmart choose to go the web app route, we suspect it had something to do with the whole taking 30 percent of the rental and purchase fees. That said, according to Walmart, they wanted to offer a “continuos experience.”

“At Walmart, one of our key priorities is to provide one continuous experience for our customers to interact with our brand — whether that is in stores, online or from their mobile devices,” said Edward Lichty, general manager, VUDU.

Either way, regardless of a dedicated or a web app — you are still streaming movies from Vudu to your iPad. Furthermore, the movies that you rent on the iPad can also be viewed on any other Vudu capable devices including a regular computer or a device with built-in or stand-alone support.
