Spotify Scores 1.4 Million Users In The U.S.
Spotify is looking mighty popular with Americans – the digital music service raked in 1.4 million users less than a month after launching in the United States. Majority is made up of free trial users, yes. But an impressive 175,000 people already converted as paying subscribers. That happened in less than a month. In comparison, 10-year-old Radioshack has 800,000 paying customers.

Spotify has not confirmed these numbers, which were merely leaked to AllThingsD by “a source familiar to the company’s operations.” That 12.5% conversion rate is less than Spotify‘s 15% conversion rate in Europe, but it’s remarkable enough in and of itself. After all, Spotify offers more free content in the United States, and people have less of a reason to sign up for a paid service.

But as paying the subscription fee of $10 a month allows people to access the service on their iPhones and Android smartphones, I bet a lot of people find the subscription worth their cash.
