Mad Catz Re-Releasing Rock Band 3 Later This Year, Bundled With Mad Catz Peripherals

Mad Catz Giving Rock Band 3 A New Lease On Life, Will Publish New Bundles Packaged With Mad Catz Peripherals Later This Year

Rhythm games have suffered a terrible fate in the past couple of years: over-saturation led to something of a “crash” within the rhythm game genre, with Activision pulling the plug on the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero franchises (at least for the time being). With their biggest competitor out of the picture, you’d think that Harmonix would have a relatively simple time selling Rock Band 3, the latest installment of their critically acclaimed Rock Band series.

But nope. Even though Rock Band 3 was met with amazing reviews (it holds a 93 on Metacritic), Harmonix couldn’t escape the fate of the rhythm game genre. Sales were terrible and Rock Band 3 publisher MTV Games was closed, which pretty much spelled death for the Rock Band franchise.

But now Mad Catz has entered the picture, and they’re ready to give Rock Band 3 a new lease on life. They’ve announced that they will be taking over publishing duties for Rock Band 3 later this year, and when it appears on store shelves under the Mad Catz brand, it will be bundled with Mad Catz peripherals as well. The press release announcing the new deal says that these new copies of Rock Band 3 will come bundled with their wireless keyboard controller, wireless Fender Stratocaster guitar controller, and wireless Fender Mustang PRO-guitar controller.

Strangely, drum kits seem missing from these bundles, with Mad Cats choosing not to explain why drums are being denied a spot. There’s also a bit of unfortunate news to go along with this announcement: these new Rock Band 3 Mad Catz bundles have only been confirmed for Xbox 360 so far. Mad Catz is keeping their lips sealed on a potential PS3 version, but if plans for these bundles change, we’ll be sure to let you know!
