Acer Aspire 3951 Ultrabook to Challenge MacBook Air?
Many have tried — and failed — to market a thin and light notebook computer that can challenge the MacBook Air. Even Acer has had an attempt before, but the market has clearly preferred Apple’s magical device over everyone else. But with news of a new leaked Acer Aspire ultrabook, will the MBA have a solid challenger?

Images of the Acer Aspire 3951 show that the upcoming notebook computer — actually an Intel Ultrabook — might have what it takes to challenge the MacBook Air in the thin and light category. Sightings from Vietnam indicate that the Aspire 3951 comes in a 13.3-inch Aluminum form factor and and is 0.51 inch thick.
The 3951 will likely run on an Intel Core platform. Intel’s 160 GB SSD is optional, but the notebook can also come with a 250 GB or 500 GB drive with spinning discs. The Aspire Ultrabook will come with a Bluetooth 4.0 port, card reader and HDMI (in lieu of a Thunderbolt port). As with most ultrabook designs, the Acer Aspire 3951 will have most of the interface ports moved toward the back of the device, to aid in making the chassis thin.
As for pricing, rumor has it that Acer’s upcoming MacBook Air challenger will be priced to undercut the competition, ranging from $769 to $961 depending on configuration.
Will the Acer Aspire 3951 prove to be a worthy challenger to the MacBook Air? We’ll see once it’s out to market.
