Sprint iPhone 5 Confirmed by Customer Service Rep; Unless It’s All a Hoax

Is That an iPhone 5 Coming to Sprint’s CDMA Network or Is the Carrier Simply Afraid of Bleeding Any More Customers?

More and more often we’re hearing that Sprint will be the next important U.S. carrier to get the iPhone, and today we have a similar report for you based on a Sprint subscriber’s recent experience with the mobile operator’s customer care.

According to that customer care rep Sprint is going to have the iPhone 5 in stores later this year although an official release date isn’t yet available:

“First question from our reader: “Is there any possibility of an iPhone on Sprint in the near future?” And the answer from the Sprint rep: “Please know that we are planning to launch the phone,” and then she went on to explain that there’s no specific release date for it and that we should be watching Sprint.com for updates…”

Is that response believable? There are two way to look at it. Either Sprint instructed its employees to confirm the fact the iPhone 5 is actually scheduled to be launched by the carrier in those cases in which subscribers seemed really interested in the phone or Sprint’s reps are conducting a disinformation campaign, meant to keep customers on board and stall for time hoping they will choose not to leave the carrier when they realize the iPhone 5 is not coming to Sprint anytime soon.

In either case Sprint is definitely hoping not to bleed any more customers, especially considering the iPhone 5 will be available in the USA in the near future from rivals AT&T and Verizon. It’s also worth mentioning Apple is in it for the cash, and considering its fierce battle with Google in the smartphone business, it’s probably safe to safe that expansion plans to other carriers, like Sprint or T-Mobile, but not only, are definitely priorities for the Cupertino-based company.

But is Sprint duping its customers right now, or is the carrier really getting its own CDMA-flavored iPhone 5 soon? That’s a tough question to answer, considering all the rumors floating around the web saying that Sprint is next in line for getting the iPhone. What’s pretty dubious though is the fact that regular customer care reps would have knowledge of Sprint’s iPhone launch plans or that they’d be allowed to confirm such details to anyone asking. Also interesting is the fact that the rep isn’t trying to pitch a new Android smartphone to the customer since Sprint does have quite a few worthy Android devices to look at.

If Sprint knows what’s best for them, they better get that iPhone 5. If they don’t, that’ll be the worse move in company history! They are the only ones with a true unlimited data plan, and if they can get their hands on that iPhone, and keep true unlimited data, they could set themselves up to really compete!

My sister works for Sprint and she told me a few months ago that they’re getting the new iPhone but didn’t know when the actual release date is.

I work for at&t customer care and we havent heard about any release dates or anything like that, they actually havent told us nothing about the device it self, all we tell our customers is that we have heard roumurs just like they have, i wish i knew myself, i do hope they come to sprint though at&t just to much am glad i switched, i may work for them but dont agree with what they offer, but thats besides the point, just hope it does come out soon

As a Sprint employee I know all about the rumors. Sprints official stance is non commital. We have all received emails and notifications that have stated a basic no comment. Funny thing is they actually tell us in the emails how to respond to questions about the iPhone. Really corny “I have heard those rumors as well but I don’t have any information to give you at this time”, that is how we are supposed to respond. Ugghh! The fact that they are now telling us how to respond leads me to believe that its only a matter of time till we get it.
