$200 off HP TouchPad Now Available at Staples

webOS Tablet Even More Affordable: $299 for 16GB TouchPad & $399 for 32GB Version; Is HP Making Any Money Off It?

Earlier today we have shown you an impressive deal for the HP TouchPad worth over $100 in savings but we’re just about to show you one that’s even better, $200 off any of HP’s tablet versions when purchasing yours from Staples.

Now there’s nothing saying this tablet isn’t selling all that great better than slashing prices like that. The HP TouchPad has been just launched, and while it’s supposed to be an important iPad 2 rival, it would seem HP and its partners are having a hard time selling it.

Staples will let you combine that $100 off in-store only coupon, that’s valid towards your HP TouchPad purchase (and which we have already shared with you), with HP’s $100 off instant savings discount that will be available to anyone deciding to buy a TouchPad this weekend. The two discounts are stackable which means you’re looking to save $200 on your HP TouchPad purchase. That means the 16GB version will cost you $299.99 instead of the regular $499.99 while the 32GB version will cost $399.99 instead of the regular $599.99 (see image below).

It’s interesting to see HP offer a different approach to tablet pricing. Motorola’s Xoom, even if better in hardware than the iPad 2, failed to become a best-selling device partly due to its high price. The TouchPad on the other hand comes with the same pricing scheme that Apple uses on its iPads, but that’s apparently not enough to convince the public to buy the webOS tablet like crazy. Therefore HP is adapting a lot faster than Motorola when it comes to slashing prices. Moto decided to drop the price of its Xoom too, but not after one month of sales.

HP has not announced any TouchPad sales yet, and we may have to wait until the end of the quarter to see how many tablets the computer giant has sold. But something tells me they won’t be anywhere near Apple’s tablet numbers for the same quarter.

Is anyone buying a $299.99 or $399.99 webOS tablet this weekend?
