Catherine Now Best Selling Atlus Game In Company History
Japanese publisher Atlus has just had what they’re calling the biggest launch in the 20 years history of their country. Fan favorite Catherine (an eccentric puzzle game with dating sim elements) from the team behind Persona 4 was recently released in North America, and Atlus is already talking up the booming success the game has found in this country.

Although he wouldn’t provide exact numbers, Atlus VP Tim Pivinicy confirmed to gaming website IGN that the game had set an Atlus sales record. Pivinicy said:
Catherine has exceeded our highest expectations. It released last week to tremendous critical acclaim and fan response, bolstered by the release of a demo a couple weeks prior, and continues to generate discussion among fans for its mature themes, engrossing subject matter, and frantic, challenging gameplay. It is fitting, then, that Catherine can boast the largest launch in the 20-year history of Atlus, and continues to see strong sales at retail.
Catherine is currently sporting an incredibly solid “83” Metacritic score, with the vast majority of critics giving it positive scores. Catherine certainly had a lot of hype going for it, coming from the same team that made Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4, a very popular very Japanese RPG that came out late in the PS2’s lifecycle.
If you live in Europe and want to get your hands on some Catherine action, don’t fret. It was recently announced that Atlus has found somebody to handle European publishing of the game. That’ll be handled by Deep Silver. No word on a release date for Europe, other than before the end of the year.
