Epson Shows Off Two New LCD Projectors

Epson's PowerLite 1880 & PowerLite 1850W Let You Get Big Images Up Where You Need Them

We haven’t heard much out of the folks out at Epson lately, so it was something of a relief to bring you some new product news from them. And the best part, we’ve got a pair of projectors to talk about, specifically, the Epson PowerLite 1880 and the Epson PowerLite 1850W, both geared toward businesses who need to show off some big images and do so cost effectively.

The Epson PowerLite 1880 is packing XGA resolution at 4000 lumens of brightness, along with Easy-Slide horizontal keystone adjustment (it allows you to square the image even if the projector itself is off-center), Quick Corner (which allows you to adjust the corners individually to get a perfectly laid-out picture), 1.6x optical zoom, a variety of connectivity options (including USB, HDMI, and wired LAN connectivity), three chip 3LCD technology for reduced power use and an onboard 10 watt speaker with closed captioning decoder as well as a two  year limited warranty.

The Epson PowerLite 1850W, meanwhile, offers pretty much all the same features as the 1880 does, but with WXGA resolution at 3700 lumens of brightness instead.

Admittedly, this may not be the kind of hardware you’d want for, say, your home theater system, but it’s not hard to see where this would be good for, say, a really impressive monitor replacement for your office PC. And when I say “really impressive”, I mean it, because the Epson PowerLite 1880 retails for $1400, while the Epson PowerLite 1850W proves to be its slightly cheaper cousin at $1300.

Both projectors will be available in September, at last report, through a variety of possible dealers.

It’s not hard to be impressed by these little fellas, but how much impact will they make on the marketplace? That’s a question better left to a wide readership like you guys, so how about it? Think you could find a use for an Epson PowerLite? Or is this just a little too niche for you to get in on? Either way, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and let’s talk projectors!
