Revolutionary Tool Unlocks Most HTC Bootloaders
HTC has announced that it will soon let users unlock the bootloaders on their Android smartphones and tablets. But if you can’t wait, a team of developers has made an application that can unlock most HTC Android devices, and it’s currently available for download.

“Revolutionary” is a tool developed by teams Unrevoked and AlphaRev, which are behind a handful of Android tools, particularly those used for rooting and unlocking bootloaders. The Revolutionary tool is an S-OFF Tool that lets users install custom firmware on smartphones or tablets. Revolutionary currently works on the HTC Aria, Desire S, Wildfire, Incredible S, Incredible 2, Sensation and Evo 3D. The software also works on the HTC Flyer tablet, and support for other devices is in the works.
The utility will basically change the otherwise unwriteable partition on your Android device so you can load a custom recovery image or firmware like CyanogenMod. This can either be for new firmware updates that cannot be installed through the official method, or custom/homebrew firmware that adds features to your smartphone or tablet. Revolution does not automatically root your device, though, but unlocking the bootloader is sometimes an initial step to rooting. After unlocking, you can usually root the device manually using tools like BusyBox and SuperUser.
Revolutionary is currently in developer preview, so the software might still be rough around the edges. But if you want to unlock your HTC device, you can either get Revolutionary now or wait for HTC to release their official unlockers.
