Google Executive Chairman Seen Using A Blackberry Instead Of An Android

Is Brand Loyalty Not Important At Google?

When asked if his children owned iPods, Bill Gates found the question amusing and simply stated they were Zune users. This type of brand loyalty is usually important to companies showing the world how they feel about their own products. It doesn’t seem to be the case with Google’s executive chairman who seems to have been caught in public snapping photos with his trusty Blackberry.

Blackberry fans are snickering and Android fans are shaking their heads after finding out that Eric Schmidt, Google executive chairman and former CEO, was seen in Indonesia sporting his BlackBerry Bold 9780. Perhaps a one-time occurrence could be chalked up to testing out the competition but this wasn’t the first time. Back in 2009 he was caught using his Blackberry Curve 8900.

Android is a fairly new smartphone operating system and Blackberry phones had been the default business phones for quite some time before the competition became fierce. Perhaps familiarity with the competition’s phone’s experience makes switching difficult but what kind of impact could this have on his own brand?
